Review City ordinances related to animal control.

Report an Animal Issue

  • For animal control concerns inside the City of Teague, contact Freestone County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch so the call can be properly logged and routed. Call: (903) 398-3236, Option 2
  • For emergencies or immediate threats to life or safety, call 911.
  • You may also use the online form below for non-emergency animal concerns that do not require immediate response.

Impoundment Procedures

For certain violations, City Ordinances may require impoundment.

The City of Teague does not currently operate an animal shelter and does not have a dedicated impound facility. When impoundment or quarantine is required, the department works with local rescue partners and available resources while the City continues to address long-term shelter needs.

Fees, release requirements, quarantine requirements, and pickup arrangements may vary depending on the circumstances of the case. If your animal has been impounded, contact Freestone County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch at (903) 398-3236, Option 2, so the matter can be properly logged and routed.

Proof of current rabies vaccination is required before release, in accordance with City Ordinance and state law.

You may also receive a citation, depending on the violation and circumstances.

Citations are handled through Teague Municipal Court.

Surrenders

The City of Teague does not operate an animal shelter and generally cannot accept owner surrenders. In limited emergency circumstances, staff may provide guidance or refer residents to available rescue or adoption resources.

Residents seeking to rehome an animal should contact local rescue organizations, shelters, or adoption resources in the surrounding area.

Lost Pets

If your pet is missing or you believe your pet may have been picked up, contact Freestone County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch at (903) 398-3236, Option 2.
