Our Teague Story

Teague’s roots reach back to the Civil War era, when a small community known as Brewer grew on this site in the late 1800s. In 1906, the Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway located machine and car shops here, and the town was incorporated as Teague—named by railroad magnate Benjamin Franklin Yoakum in honor of his mother Narcissus Teague and her parents James and Jane Fowler Teague, early pioneers of Freestone County.

The railroad became central to Teague’s early growth and identity. The Trinity & Brazos Valley passenger depot, rail lines, shops, and the people who worked around them helped shape the community that developed here during the early twentieth century.

Today, Teague sits in western Freestone County, with U.S. Highway 84 connecting us to Fairfield and Mexia. Texas State Highway 179 (Main Street) links Teague east to Dew and west toward Mexia.
