WELCOME TO TEAGUE POLICE DEPARTMENT
Welcome to our website!
The City of Teague was first settled during the the Civil War. A small community known as “Brewer” grew up at the site, during the latter half of the nineteenth century. When the Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway was built through the county in 1906, it located its machine and car shops at the site. The residents of the time incorporated the new town as “Teague” in 1906. The town of Brewer was renamed Teague by railroad magnate Benjamin Franklin Yoakum in honor of his mother Narcissus Teague and her parents James and Jane Fowler Teague, who were early pioneers in Freestone County. The town incorporated in 1906.
Teague is located in western portion of Freestone County in which U.S. Highway 84 passes through the northern side of the city, leading northeast 10 miles to Fairfield, the county seat for Freestone County, and northwest 13 miles to Mexia. Texas State Highway 179 (Main Street) leads east 9 miles to Dew and west 12.5 miles to Meixa.

Have you have considered being a police officer and just could not afford to leave your job to go to the academy? Cannot work and go to the academy at the same time? We have news for you! At the June 12, 2023, City Council Meeting our Board of Aldermen authorized the police department to hire non-certified/licensed individuals as Police Cadets.
The goal in this is to provide training and employment opportunities to individuals that, for lack of being a certified officer, would otherwise be qualified candidates for being hired as police officers. The city bears the cost of tuition, equipment, uniforms, and pays you a salary to attend an Accredited Basic Peace Officer Academy. Upon graduation and passing the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement examination you will be transitioned to a full time Peace Officer with our agency.
“As an equal opportunity employer, the City of Teague considers only qualified applicants without regard to color, age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender expression, disability, national origin, veteran, or marital status.”
